The words amoral and immoral can be confusing. Amoral is used when moral considerations do not apply. Immoral, however, means contrary to established moral principles.

Amoral or immoral?


The word amoral is an adjective. It is used to talk about someone or something that is unconcerned with the rightness or wrongness or that is lacking moral sensibility . An amoral act is not morally good nor is it morally bad.

The word immoral is an adjective and it means not moral; not conforming to or consistent with the moral law.


  • Cheating is considered to be an immoral act.
