World Food Programme: Fighting Hunger Worldwide

The World Food Programme (WFP) stands as the vanguard in combating global hunger, representing the food assistance arm of the United Nations and the largest humanitarian organization dedicated to eradicating hunger worldwide. Originating from a proposal by George McGovern in 1961, WFP was formally established in 1963 by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the United Nations General Assembly. Since then, it has evolved into a beacon of hope, providing sustenance to an average of 90 million people annually, including 58 million children. In 1965, the programme was extended to a continuing basis.

With its headquarters in Rome and over 80 country offices globally, WFP operates with the primary objective of addressing the multifaceted challenges of food insecurity. Its efforts extend beyond mere food distribution, encompassing a comprehensive approach to tackling the root causes of hunger and malnutrition.
