World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated on October 5th since 1994 to recognize teachers’ hard work and patience in their demanding and sometimes stressful profession. Teachers around the world strive to educate, inspire, and shape future generations. The main aim of the celebration is to support teachers and ensure that the needs of future learners continue to be met. On this day, various events take place to honor teachers, including classroom activities, conferences, and local celebrations.
UNESCO encourages everyone to stand up for teachers and to appreciate their vital role in building a better future for humanity. The day also raises awareness of the importance of teachers and their contribution to education and development. Therefore, governments and decision-makers are responsible for providing adequate training, continuous professional development, and protecting teachers’ rights.
More than 100 countries observe World Teachers’ Day. The efforts of Education International, a global federation of teachers’ trade unions with 401 member organizations, have helped make this celebration widely recognized. Every year, Education International launches a campaign to raise public awareness about the contributions of the teaching profession.
